No hatchery trout have been stocked in the area in a number of years. The rainbows and browns all react with the strength and tenacity only wild-reared fish in a major river can muster. Browns and rainbows hammer flies like they are starving, which defies their thick, wide profiles.
Born wild, raised wild, both the browns and rainbows of the lower Gunnison come to the hand very reluctantly.
Our Colorado associate is the Gunnison River Pleasure Park. International Flyfisher offers guided float trips on the upper and lower Gunnison River for 14-26 inch rainbows and browns. This Colorado fishery gets better every year! Also ask about catching trophy trout on private rivers and lakes in Western Colorado.
